This is just the beginning of all the learning I get to do around regenerative farming, there is so much to learn and it’s incredibly rewarding learning. From soil blocking to using the duck poop water as fertilizer, all of the flowers have been grown without pesticides or herbicides using regenerative practices.
Some of my favorite memories growing up are visiting my grandpa’s farm in Illinois and spending all day in the garden, eating fresh berries, tomatoes and chasing fireflies. My Dad continued the gardening tradition, managing to find land to garden behind our house in Boulder. Flowers and vegetables have always been a passion for me, but most of it had to be done during the summer since I was busy with a full time teaching job and two children.
After 30 years as a High School Choir director, I decided to retire. Having no idea what I wanted to do with my newly found freedom, I started rediscovering my love for all things gardening. But this time I wanted to do it differently, instead of buying all my plants, I wanted to grow everything from seed. I want to be as regenerative as possible, cut down on the use of plastics, and use everything that is available on the ranch to fertilize and mulch the garden, keeping it chemical free and safe for all of the pollinators.
Boulder County Public Works is doing construction work this year and 95th Street, the main road to get here, will be closed at times. Please see this Capella Ranch page for details.
