Goats

Early in our ranch life we heard about a thing called a "chicken swap". It was down in Denver at a feed store and allegedly you could bring "spare" roosters to buy/sell/swap for other chickens. We indeed swapped our roosters for some hens...and a GOAT! Seems more than just chickens show up at chicken swaps.

So we brought her home. In the car. And named her Giselle. Pretty quickly we realized that she was lonely, so we did the only thing we COULD do: we called her original owner and arranged to buy ANOTHER goat. And when you have two goats, you know what you REALLY need? That's right. More.

We found a Nigerian Dwarf breeder in southern Colorado and brought home three does and a buck (that the breeder "threw in for free".) The buck did his thing and the next spring we found ourselves with whole herd! We absolutely loved our expanding goat family. There is just nothing cuter than baby goats, and when they grow up around people, they stay friendly forever. We think of our "kids" as our "farm puppies" because they are playful, silly, loving, and they each have their distinct personalities.

We wanted to share the magic of being close-up with goats, so we started plans to open a "goat yoga" experience. We planted a big, grassy field, got several goats lined up to deliver kids in springtime, and we were all set to open - in May of 2020. Womp, womp. Nothing like a global pandemic to change your plans!

Now we offer farm tours where you can come visit the goats and spend quality time in the park feeding them their favorite animal crackers! You're welcome to do some yoga if you want, but really, it's more fun just to play with the goats. Some will want to play head-butt with you, some will want to jump up (naughty goats!), and some, like our current youngest boy Herculeas, just want to be held and snuggled. (And he may want to nibble on you a bit, but that just means he likes you!) We are expecting baby goats in May of 2023!

Our little gemstone is so sweet, and a little dingy. Mostly a light brown, with beautiful eyes, Opal is happy to take things as they come and go along with the crowd. The last of our first round of kid deliveries, proved to be the longest and hardest. After what seemed like an eternity, Opal gave birth to baby Ruby. Ruby came out screaming and didn’t stop for about a week. She wasn’t in pain - seems like she just wanted to be heard (or herd?) She has also given us Jasper and Nugget.

KRISTOFF

Wether
Gaston is a registered Nigerian Dwarf buck, bred to be small. Appropriately named, Gaston is very full of himself and takes after his namesake from Beauty and the Beast. He thoroughly enjoys his responsibilities of fathering more kids, and would prefer wooing the ladies over interacting with the humans. In 2023, we decided to retire him from being a buck. We had him wethered so he can live out his days with the rest of our herd.

Wether
Zillow is a Nigerian Dwarf mix wether. He likes to keep everyone company, and loves Giselle. Happy-go-lucky, Zillow enjoys bouncing around on rocks and loves to run! The father of none - and the uncle to all.
